About Us
The Robey Theatre Company is dedicated to developing and producing plays that explore the global Black experience.
Founded in 1994 as a Reader’s Circle focused on Black classics, the company was formally incorporated in 1996 by veteran actors, longtime collaborators and friends Ben Guillory and Danny Glover. Motivated by a shared commitment to creating space for Black artists in Hollywood and beyond, they established Robey as a platform for bold, transformative storytelling.
We are a community of artists, creatives, and changemakers who believe in the power of theatre to inspire, challenge, and connect. Our work is rooted in collaboration, exploration, and care. We provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where BIPOC artists can thrive—on stage, behind the scenes, and in every part of the creative process.
