The Great Lover received an extraordinary 15 nominations at the 31st NAACP Theatre Awards, earning four awards: Best Director (Ben Guillory), Best Lead Actress (Tiffany Coty-Goines), Best Supporting Actor (Joshua Bruce), and Best Costume Design (Naila Aladdin Sanders). Following its award-winning success, the production has also been selected to appear on the main stage of the prestigious International Black Theatre Festival (IBTF) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. These achievements reflect The Robey Theatre Company's continued commitment to producing exceptional theatre that celebrates the richness, diversity, and enduring legacy of the global Black experience.

The Playwright’s Lab is dedicated to the art of storytelling and high-quality playmaking. The process is collaborative and designed to encourage artistic growth and expression. Built into the design are opportunities for ongoing feedback through guided discussion.
About Us
Founded in 1994 as a Reader’s Circle focused on Black classics, the company was formally incorporated in 1996 by veteran actors, longtime collaborators and friends Ben Guillory and Danny Glover. Motivated by a shared commitment to creating space for Black artists in Hollywood and beyond, they established Robey as a platform for bold, transformative storytelling.
We are a community of artists, creatives, and changemakers who believe in the power of theatre to inspire, challenge, and connect. Our work is rooted in collaboration, exploration, and care. We provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where BIPOC artists can thrive—on stage, behind the scenes, and in every part of the creative process.
